Research shows that students learn best when given exemplars, such as mentor sentences, when initiating writing instruction. Students are better writers when they understand the rules of English, and using mentor sentences is a great way to do that. I teach 6th, and my students are struggling a bit, so I felt listening to you explain the process and tips for implementing mentor sentences would enhance what I was stuck on.
Also, colleagues using the program asked great questions and offered suggestions too, which was so helpful. I’ve been bumping along without anyone to talk with, and this workshop delivered beautifully. I like the various options given for Thursdays and Fridays; I am also excited to get the lesson plan version, which I think will make the tasks go more smoothly.
