This question is at the heart of why I created The Hungry Teacher’s Hub.

When I first moved into middle school ELA, I quickly realized that most “rigorous” resources were either way too difficult for my sixth graders—or way too easy for my eighth graders. My sixth graders were frustrated. My eighth graders were bored. And most of my students weren’t reading or writing at all—not because they didn’t care, but because no one had shown them how to engage with texts in a meaningful, confidence-building way.
