During my first year of teaching middle school ELA, I was so overwhelmed with all that I needed to teach, that I just stopped teaching grammar altogether. I tried using the worksheets and practice provided in my district's scripted curriculum, and my students became so bored that I had a classroom management nightmare.

I learned about using mentor sentences to teach grammar and knew it was the answer to all my problems but... 

I couldn't find complete resources for middle school ELA teachers. 

I started utilizing the texts I was already using in my classroom and began creating a grammar framework that had my students and me engaged and excited about grammar.
